In our recent collaboration with Evolve Agency and their client, The Lamb Company, we were commissioned to capture e-commerce-ready images of premium halal and grass-fed meat products—including lamb, beef, and specialty cuts—for display on Metro.ca.
What might seem like a simple white-background product shoot demanded high-level precision in lighting, colour correction, and brand integrity.

The Brief: E-Commerce Consistency at a National Scale
The Lamb Company is a well-established supplier of premium grass-fed lamb and beef, working with producers in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. With multiple sub-brands like Barakah Meadows and Springvale, the packaging across SKUs varies—but all had to meet the same high standards for:
Colour accuracy (especially critical for raw proteins)
Brand label clarity
Reflection control on vacuum-sealed plastic
Uniform lighting across SKUs
Metro.ca’s strict e-commerce specs (white background, no shadows, true-to-life scale)
The Challenge: Raw Meat Is Unforgiving
Photographing raw meat for retail is not the same as shooting cooked food for editorial or social. There are two major hurdles:
1. Colour Accuracy Is Everything
Unlike other CPG categories, raw meat coloration is directly tied to buyer perception. Too pale, and it looks unappetizing. Too red, and it looks artificial. Any deviation from the actual marbling or freshness can mislead customers—or worse, damage trust.
To ensure colour fidelity:
We lit every product using high-end strobe lights with large modifiers to produce consistent, colour-balanced output
A grey card was used in every lighting setup to ensure true-to-life white balance
Post-production involved selective masking and hue correction, particularly in the fat-to-meat contrast zones (e.g., lamb chops, ribeyes)

2. Managing Reflections on Vacuum-Sealed Packaging
Plastic-wrapped proteins are notorious for causing specular reflections, glare, and distortion across logos and certification icons. Our solution?
Diffused lighting with large softboxes and v-flats to minimize bounce
Strategic product positioning to maintain legibility of branding and nutrition info
Fine retouching to remove micro-reflections without altering the packaging texture or distorting the label
Workflow with Evolve Agency: Collaboration Done Right
Working with Evolve Agency meant operating with clarity and efficiency. Their creative team provided:
A well-articulated shot list and Metro.ca requirements
Clear visual references and retouching expectations
Organized SKU labeling and handoff
Fast turnaround approvals via real-time review during the shoot
We shot over 15 SKUs at our Hamilton studio using a fully tethered workflow, ensuring every image was reviewed and approved for consistency and compliance.

Final Delivery: Clean, Consistent, Consumer-Ready
All final images were delivered in both high-resolution and web-ready formats, adhering to Metro.ca's technical specifications:
Pure white backgrounds (#ffffff)
Cropped with safe margins and print-scale accuracy
Label and logo clarity retained across mobile and desktop views
300dpi TIFFs and optimized JPEGs for fast load times
